In this Bangor Daily News opinion piece, Julia Hathaway writes about ageism. She states “…we act as though there are two categories: young and old.” She looks at how this then permeates our language with all the negative words related to being elderly or a senior citizen.
She goes on to write about how the language then results in the customs related to ageism. She says “It isn’t the gray hair. It isn’t the wrinkles. It’s the stigma our society attaches to them.”
Fortunately, Julie tells us how she’s loving her 60s and will continue to live her life despite what others say.
